Carnaval in Cap Haitian and Milot, Haiti

Here’s a video / audio slideshow of Haiti’s 2013 national Karnaval, held in the northern city of Cap Haitian in mid February.
I took a tap tap north from Cite Soleil and another from Cap Haitian to the town of Milot, took a moto and then hiked 8 miles up to visit the magnificent Citedel — the largest fortress in the Americas, built by newly freed slaves.
Back down in Milot, Karnaval was in full swing with kids whipping the cobble stones while troubadours decked out in home made costumes busked around the block.
Cap Haitian had three nights of ear-blasting kompa music, copious Barbancourt and sardine-like crowds moshing around the parades.
